just imagine if natasha and peggy ever met though it would be the most incredible thing:
nat and peggy exchanging stories about stupid shit steve does on missions “he told maria to fire on the helicarrier while he was still on it” “he jumped out of a plane while we were under fire deep in enemy territory”
nat and peggy going out for ice cream and bonding over their shared love of cookie dough ice cream
when they see a group of teenage girls getting catcalled, they immediately intercede and scare the men off. nat gives some of the girls a couple of her spare knives and she and peggy show them some basic self defense moves
nat and peggy having actual honest-to-god sleepovers, either in the tower or in the nursing home (depending on how peggy’s feeling that day) and they braid each other’s hair and come up with ways to mess with the other avengers
peggy helping nat leave the country after shield falls because she still has contacts in europe to help nat establish some new covers
on peggy’s bad days, nat reads her books. if the staff won’t let her into peggy’s room, nat steals a nurse’s uniform and sneaks in anyway.
one day, nat walks in while peggy’s grandchildren are visiting, but before she can leave, her grandchildren are pulling her forward and thanking her for keeping their grandmother company when they can’t.
nat and peggy going for a walk in the park and peggy wanting to sit down on a bench and feed pigeons.
nat rolling her eyes and saying, “you and rogers are perfect for each other”
nat bringing peggy back souvenirs from her missions overseas. peggy keeps them all in her desk because they remind her of her own missions
peggy giving nat some of her favorite recipes and teaching her how to cook because nat never had anyone to give her treasured family recipes or a reason to make anything other than microwaved meals
peggy making sure that nat knows how wonderful she is and helping her to forgive herself for her past actions because peggy knows better than most the importance of knowing your own value
So Peggy’s SHIELD file says she was born in 1919. The sign at her funeral says 1921. Obviously one of them is wrong. Which one, and where did the error occur? Why would SHIELD think Peggy was two years older than whoever arranged her funeral?
Assuming 1921 is the correct date, Peggy would have been 19 in 1940, as the war in Europe was really swinging into gear. If she were born in 1919, it would make her 21.
Peggy lied on her enlistment form.
Okay so I read this post and my initial thought was “um… but 19 is DEFINITELY old enough to enlist in the British army in 1939… it’s old enough NOWADAYS… so…” (And maybe OP thought this was common knowledge but not for me so!!)
So I did some research, and there IS a reason the switch up to 21 years old would have made a difference (all of this is based on Wikipedia, so, you know. Take with a grain of salt)!
Men under 20 years old were initially not liable to be sent overseas, but this exemption was lifted by 1942.
So if Peggy signed up in 1939/1940 and had been determined to serve in the continental front, then she WOULD have good reason for bumping her age 2 years.
